Fine Structure

Slow News Week

And when it's slow, one should make lists:

  • It's been a pretty slow (and busy elsewhere) week or two for physics news that I'm reading. In the meantime I'll leave a couple links from Uncertain Principles and Shtetl-Optimized (although the latter is mostly comp-sci related) about Jon Katz' "Don't Become a Scientist" rant. The issue here resonates with me in that I'm just beginning to seriously experience physics and neither myself nor anyone else wants to be caught in a skimpy job market. And it definitely is a skimpy job market. BUT it's really not enough to keep me away and from what I hear, not nearly as bad as Katz makes it out to be. Please encourage me.
  • I'm 90% done with a really fantastic new design for Fine Structure. It'll be up within the next week or two. And then my blog-time will be for blogging and not designing.
This is your sparse update for the week.
